Austria: Hohe Tauern, Carinthia and Salzburg
1. Our 'normal' route through Austria is indicated with a red line . It goes from Kufstein to Kitzbühel and from there via Hohentauern, fee 11 Euros (2016) to Lienz and Plöckenpass/Passo di Monte Croce and down to Piano d'Arta. Great all the way.
2. Rafting in the Summer. Roundtrip driving time is 2-4 hours over Passo di Monte Croce and via Lienz in Austria.
3. The spectacular Grossglockner High Alpine Road can be taken as an alternative to the 'normal' route. It is an easy drive but, of course, with many hairpin bends. Going up to 2,600 m above s.l., fee ≈ 12 Euros (2016).
4. The awesome Passo di Monte Croce (Plöckenpass) with many hairpin bends (tornanti) is only 20 min from the house.
5. Salzburg with the imposing castle and a rich cultural life. Mozart's house is a 'must'. The city is 3 hours away. Good starting point for flights to and from the house. Beautiful mountain scenery on the way. Remember vignette for motorways in Austria! The police is very active, and the fines for driving without vignettes are heavy.
6. Millstätter See is one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria. The lake is warm all Summer and therefore very popular for bathing. A roundtrip from the house takes ≈ 3 hours. Remember vignette for motorways in Austria!
7. Klagenfurt/Wörthersee region of Carinthia (Kärnten). The city is beautiful with many old houses. Wörthersee is hot in the Summer, up to 28 degrees C, and it is therefore a favorite for swimmers. A roundtrip from the house is about 3 hours. Remember vignette for motorways in Austria!
8-10. See Slovenia, Triglav National Park. and Ljubljana, Triglav, Soča river.
